The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) have joined forces in an initiative supported by FIFA and the Government of Mexico. The goal is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop their talent in football and build a promising future. This joint effort aims to change the country through sport.
At an event held at the elementary school 'Professor Ponciano Rodríguez' in Mexico City, the start of the First National Social Football Tournament was announced. This tournament, more than a sports competition, aims to transform lives, strengthen communities, and prevent addictions through football. During the ceremony, the importance of every child having the opportunity to play, learn, and grow with the beloved sport in Mexico was emphasized.
The alliance between the SEP, FMF, and FIFA represents a milestone in promoting the well-being and sports development of children in the country. It will focus on creating habits for a healthy life in basic education schools. The National School Football Tournament has been agreed upon, which is expected to be the largest in the world and invite about 12 million elementary school children to participate.
The tournament will be played in a 5 vs. 5 football format, with rules adapted for multipurpose fields, aiming to promote physical activity and teamwork among students. Additionally, it seeks for football to become a tool to promote values such as respect, perseverance, and fair play among participants. This effort has the support of more than 100,000 balls provided by FIFA.
The impact of this initiative is expected to go beyond the playing fields, transforming lives, strengthening values, and contributing to the construction of a more united and peaceful Mexico. The central message is that together, through sport, it is possible to change realities and provide opportunities for children and young people to achieve their dreams and potentials.
